In this interactive session, we'll examine the intersection between behavioral science and design practice in addressing "wicked" behavior problems. While sharing a common goal of societal betterment, these fields employ different yet complementary methodologies. For example behavioral science’s strong emphasis on theory, evidence and analytic reasoning whereas design takes a more contextualized approach to come up with new and practical solutions. During the session, we will present examples of design practices and facilitate an interactive discussion about how insights from behavioral science can become more useful for society, and explore ways to improve knowledge communication and translation. By the end of the session, we'll compile key takeaways insights and practices that could enhance the impact of behavioral science.
1) Introduction: wicked problems and the science-society feedback loop
2) Cases from design practice in health behavior change
3) Comparing behavioral science and design approaches
4) Knowledge mapping: exploring and enhancing behavioral science knowledge
5) Closing reflection
