The ISVEE16 “Kitchen Party”
Thursday, August 11
6:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
What is a Kitchen Party, you ask!
Growing up in Atlantic Canada all the action was in the kitchen. Not only was the kitchen usually the warmest room in house because of the wood stove, the kitchen is where dinner was cooked, stories were told, secrets were shared, advice was given, music was played and dancing occurred. When you visited a friend or family member you always congregated in the kitchen. You came as you were and was always greeted with open arms, a warm hug, a friendly handshake and a cup of tea or drink. You would not go hungry during your visit and your glass was never empty. At the end of the night you were fed and then sent along your merry way with a safe ride home.
The ISVEE kitchen party will recreate this experience with good food, music, dancing and a late night snack before you are sent safely on your merry way. This is not a formal event and there will be lots to explore at the beautiful historic site chosen so please dress for the weather as the space is an outdoor space with a tent. It is recommended that you wear comfortable footwear so that you can explore all that the site has to offer and dance the night away. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
