Student Presentation Awards Competition

The ISVEE 16 Scientific Committee will assess and provide awards for top student in-person presentations at the ISVEE 16 symposium; 3 awards to top oral presentations and 3 awards to top poster presentations.

Eligibility: Students presenting an oral or poster presentation in-person are eligible for these awards. Ensure that you indicate that the presenter is a student in the abstract submission platform.

Value of the Awards: $150 Canadian

Judging criteria for oral presentations: The oral presentations will be judged based on typical criteria related to effective oral presentations, in two categories, delivery and content.

DELIVERY (½  point increments; total for each item indicated)

  1. Clear pronunciation; loud enough, not using ‘um’, ‘er’, ‘you know’, etc.

  2. Overall impression of slides: logical flow of slide order, good use of slide space

  3. Slides legible from back of room, well labeled, not overcrowded, spelling/grammar
    _____(2)
  4. Stays within allotted time with time available for questions
    _____(1)
  5. Effective use of time: reasonable time for intro, methods, results and discussion/conclusion

  6. Responds well to questions
    _____(1)

CONTENT (½  point increments; total for each item indicated)

  1. Background: adequate introduction and research rationale
    _____(2)
  2. Methods and Analyses: provides clear and concise description
    _____(3)
  3. Results: clear presentation of MOST relevant results
    _____(3)
  4. Conclusions: presents logical conclusion from the results
    _____(2)
  5. Implications: puts study results into larger context – “so what?”

  6. Novelty: has the study been conducted by others? Does the study produce useful new knowledge?

Judging criteria for poster presentations: The poster presentations will be judged based on typical criteria related to effective poster presentations, in two categories, delivery and content.

DELIVERY (½  point increments; total for each item indicated)

  1. First Impression of poster: appealing, colour scheme easy on the eye, not crowded

  2. Layout of poster: logical flow of information, good use of space

  3. Readability of poster: readable font size/style, not excessive text, grammar/spelling

  4. Clear pronunciation; loud enough, not using ‘um’, ‘er’, ‘you know’, etc.
